A kerb order is quoted in metres and shipped in tonnes. This page gives you both: the stones, the sections buyers usually specify, and how many metres of each fit in a 20 ft container. بالعربية

01 — Sections and loads

Metres per 20 ft container, by section

Granite at 2,750 kg/m³ with an 8 % allowance for packing, on a 25 t payload. Sections are width × height in millimetres; lengths are cut to your order.

02 — The faces

Finishes on the exposed faces

The exposed faces are flamed or bush-hammered for grip, the bedding faces sawn. Sawn-all-round and polished-top kerbs are produced as well, for civic and landscape work.

Flamed

An oxy torch spalls the surface, leaving a rough, highly non-slip face. Granite only — the thermal shock will damage marble.

Bush-hammered

Mechanically pitted with a hammered head. The most aggressive texture we produce, for ramps, stairs and heavy external traffic.

Sandblasted

Abrasive blasting produces an even, fine-grained matt texture. Good slip resistance without the coarseness of bush-hammering.

Polished

Ground and buffed to a mirror gloss. Deepens colour and reveals vein. The standard interior finish for marble and granite worktops, walls and floors.

03 — The stones

Granites we cut as kerbs

Each opens its own page with a 360° slab view, finishes and technical data.

More granites are cut as kerbs when blocks are available: Hurghada Red, Karnak Grey, Rosa Marwa. Ask and we will confirm what can be cut now.

04 — Buying from Egypt

How a kerb order travels

We saw and finish in Alexandria and load at Alexandria, Port Said or Sokhna, quoting FOB or CIF your port with the container count and the loading plan for your quantity. Several sections, finishes or stones can travel in the same container.

The documents that travel with the goods are the commercial invoice, the packing list by crate, the bill of lading and the certificate of origin; timber is heat treated and marked. Payment is 50 % in advance, 30 % on approval after production and 20 % before shipping.

What a kerb quotation needs

  1. The profile, or a profile drawing — a sketch with dimensions is enough to start
  2. The section and the length for each item
  3. The finish on the exposed faces: flamed, bush-hammered or sawn
  4. The metres per item — send the bill of quantities as it stands and we price it line by line
  5. The destination port or site, and the Incoterm
  6. Delivery phasing, if the site takes the kerbs in stages

Questions

Buying granite kerbs from Egypt

Which sections do you cut?

Half-battered, square, splayed and radius kerbs, channels and edging, in the sections above or to your own profile drawing. Lengths are usually 500 to 1,000 mm; tell us the profile, the length and the radius and we quote against the drawing.

Which finish is normal on a kerb?

The exposed faces are flamed or bush-hammered for grip, the bedding faces sawn. Sawn-all-round and polished-top kerbs are produced as well, for civic and landscape work.

How many metres fit in a 20 ft container?

Between 140 and 421 metres, depending on the section — see the table. Kerbs are a weight load, so the container fills by tonnes long before it fills by space.

Can kerbs, setts and steps come from the same stone?

In several of these granites, yes. Where a scheme needs paving, edging and stairs to read as one material, say so at quotation stage and we cut them from the same blocks.

Do you supply to European highway profiles?

We cut to the drawing you send. Send the profile, the tolerance and the finish; if you work to a national standard, send the clause and we will confirm before cutting rather than after.

Can I have test results for the stone?

For the stone you select we arrange water absorption, flexural strength and abrasion tests at an accredited laboratory, so the results belong to the material you receive.
