Drag the slab to turn it, or use the arrow keys. Switching finish re-renders the surface — polished throws a hard specular, the abraded finishes open the surface up and knock the colour back.

Grey El Sherka is the quiet grey of the Egyptian range. The ground is a cool grey-white with no warm cast in it, the black and charcoal speckle is spread evenly rather than clustered, and the crystal is fine to medium, so the face stays uniform across a large area. That is the whole point of the stone: on a paved square or a long elevation it reads as one tone from a distance and the eye finds no pattern to follow. It is produced as setts and cobbles, kerbs, steps, slabs, tiles and cut-to-size, in the full range of external finishes, so paving, edging and stairs come out of the same material. Flamed and tumbled is the usual specification for paving; polished shows the speckle at its most legible. Availability is medium, so for a single scheme take the whole quantity in one order.

New Halayeb has the same grey-white ground but a larger, denser black crystal and far more contrast: the choice when paving should have texture rather than calm. Grey Aswan and Karnak Grey are the mid-grey Aswan stones, a shade darker in the speckle. White Safaga is lighter again, and finer still.

Photographs

Grey El Sherka in the yard

We are photographing this material now. Until the shoot is done, the turning slab and the close-up below are renderings, and the honest answer to “what does it actually look like” is a sample in your hand.

No photographs yet. Ask us for the current slab and block photographs of Grey El Sherka — we shoot them on request, in the yard, with a scale in frame. A cut sample goes out by courier the same week.

Laid out

Grey El Sherka across a floor

A photograph shows one slab on a stand. This shows the stone tile after tile — where the pattern repeats, how far the tone drifts across a batch, and what the joint does to it. Every tile here is cut from a different part of the surface, the way material comes out of a real crate.

Indicative layout. Tone drift is deliberate — no two tiles from one batch match exactly, and a laid floor should never look like one photograph repeated.

In the room

Grey El Sherka against your wall colour

Nobody buys stone on a white background. Put Grey El Sherka on the floor, up the wall or across a worktop, set the colour it will actually sit against, and change the light — the same three questions every client asks on a site visit, answered before the sample ships.

A scene, not a render of your project: proportions are indicative and colour on a screen is never the colour in a room. Send us the drawings and we will lay the real slab sizes out against your setting-out.

The slab above turns; this is the same stone at the size it sits in your hand. Change the finish and it re-cuts.

How Grey El Sherka is supplied

Blocks

Quarry blocks selected and squared. Typical 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.5 × 1.5 m, 18 – 30 tonnes. Sold by m³, loaded on flat rack or in-container with steel cradles.

Gangsaw slabs

Asked about this stone

Grey El Sherka — questions buyers ask

What sizes of sett do you cut in it?

10 × 10 cm and 10 × 20 cm faces, 5 cm and 8 cm thick, and 10 cm cubes, loose or mesh-mounted on fans. Other sizes are cut to your drawing.

Is it the same stone as Grey Aswan?

No. Grey Aswan is the mid-grey Aswan workhorse; Grey El Sherka is cooler and paler, with a finer and more even speckle. Side by side on a sample board the difference is obvious; at distance it is tone rather than pattern.

Which finish for a wet or sloping area?

Bush-hammered or flamed. Both are coarse enough to hold slip resistance when wet, and bush-hammering is the more aggressive of the two, for ramps and stair treads.

Can I see it before ordering?

Yes. Cut samples go out by courier in the finish you are considering, at the thickness you intend to lay, and the sample cost is credited against the order.
