Rosa Marwa — granite slab
Polished slab

Drag the slab to turn it, or use the arrow keys. Switching finish re-renders the surface — polished throws a hard specular, the abraded finishes open the surface up and knock the colour back.

Rosa Marwa comes out of the Eastern Desert rather than the Aswan beds, and the crystal is the giveaway: a beige-pink feldspar ground carrying a fine dark speckle instead of the coarse pink-and-black of the Aswan granites. From a few metres it reads as an even warm tone, and you only see individual grains close to. That fineness is why it goes onto cladding and cill work, where a coarse granite reads as busy at arm's length — it is the granite in this range we cut as sills for external work, alongside kerbs, steps, tiles and cut-to-size. The pink is warm and brownish rather than rose, and it holds that warmth in northern daylight instead of going grey. Polished it stays quiet; flamed, bush-hammered or sandblasted it takes external traffic, at the cost of some of the pink. It is not a stone we leather.

Rosa El Nasr is the pink we ship in volume, and it is a different animal: an Aswan granite with a coarse crystal that reads as pink-and-black speckle across an elevation. Rosa Marwa is finer and browner, which is what lets it hold together at close range on a cill, a reveal or a stair edge.

Rosa Marwa in the yard

Photographs of our own blocks, slabs and finished work. Slab photography shows one slab — the block it came from is what you are quoted against.

Laid out

Rosa Marwa across a floor

A photograph shows one slab on a stand. This shows the stone tile after tile — where the pattern repeats, how far the tone drifts across a batch, and what the joint does to it. Every tile here is cut from a different part of the surface, the way material comes out of a real crate.

Rosa Marwa tile — Egyptian granite

Indicative layout. Tone drift is deliberate — no two tiles from one batch match exactly, and a laid floor should never look like one photograph repeated.

In the room

Rosa Marwa against your wall colour

Nobody buys stone on a white background. Put Rosa Marwa on the floor, up the wall or across a worktop, set the colour it will actually sit against, and change the light — the same three questions every client asks on a site visit, answered before the sample ships.

The slab above turns; this is the same stone at the size it sits in your hand. Change the finish and it re-cuts.

How Rosa Marwa is supplied

Quarry blocks selected and squared. Typical 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.5 × 1.5 m, 18 – 30 tonnes. Sold by m³, loaded on flat rack or in-container with steel cradles.

Gangsaw slabs

Asked about this stone

Rosa Marwa — questions buyers ask

Can I order Rosa Marwa at the moment?

No — it is not available to order at present. Rosa El Nasr is the nearest pink we can ship, though its crystal is much coarser; tell us what Rosa Marwa was specified for and we will let you know when blocks come back.

Which finish should I use for external paving or cladding?

Flamed, bush-hammered or sandblasted — the three external, anti-slip finishes we produce in-house. On a speckle this fine the abraded finishes knock the pink back noticeably, so judge it from a sample in the finish you are actually buying, not from the polished slab.

It is listed in a sills format — what does that mean in practice?

Rosa Marwa is the granite here specified for window sills — the only one carrying cills among its listed uses — and it is cut as kerbs, steps, tiles and cut-to-size as well. If the sills and the cladding are for the same elevation, order them together: the speckle is fine enough that a tonal shift between blocks shows, where a coarse granite would break it up.

Does it work as a kitchen worktop?

Kitchen tops are on its list, and as a granite it is unbothered by kitchen acids. But the tone is a warm beige-pink that indoors reads closer to a beige stone than a pink one — check it against the cabinet colour on a full tile rather than a 10 × 10 cm sample.
