Egypt is one of the few places that quarries a warm honey-to-gold marble in volume. The trade names overlap and the grades shade into one another, so this page puts all of them side by side: where each comes from and how it reads.

The Sunny family — Giallo Egiziano

Sunny Menia, Sunny Medium, Sunny Dark, Sunny Oro and Sunny Oro Light all come out of the Minya escarpment in Upper Egypt, and are the stones European buyers call Giallo Egiziano. They are grades of one bed rather than separate materials: from the lighter honey of Sunny Menia to the amber end of Sunny Dark, with the Oro grades carrying the strongest gold.

Buying Egyptian yellow marble

What is Giallo Egiziano?

A trade name, used mainly in Italy, for the golden Sunny marbles from Minya in Upper Egypt: Sunny Menia, Sunny Medium, Sunny Dark, Sunny Oro and Sunny Oro Light. Ask for the grade by name when you order, because the family runs from light honey to deep amber.

Vein cut or cross cut?

Both are produced. Sawn along the bed the Sunny marbles show a fine linear drift; sawn across it they read softer and more even. The same block gives two genuinely different materials, so state which you want when you order.

Which formats do you supply?

Blocks, gangsaw slabs, cut-to-size and tiles, in polished, honed and other finishes. Each marble page lists the formats and finishes produced for that stone.

What is the minimum order?

One 20 ft container. Different golden marbles, thicknesses and finishes can travel in the same container.

Tell us the grade, the format and the quantity.

We come back with FOB and CIF prices and a lead time, usually within one working day.
