New Halayeb, Halayeb and Bianco Halayeb compared

Drag the slab to turn it, or use the arrow keys. Switching finish re-renders the surface — polished throws a hard specular, the abraded finishes open the surface up and knock the colour back.

The original Halayeb bed gives a warm mid brown with a large, plainly readable crystal, grain you pick out at arm's length rather than a stone that resolves into a flat tone. Outdoors that coarseness is the point. Dust settles, rain streaks, kerbs get scuffed, and none of it registers against variation that is already in the surface, which is why it goes out for facades, wall cladding, external paving, landscaping and stairs. It is not a worktop material: kitchen tops are not on its list, and leathered, the finish dark worktops are usually taken to, is not produced in it. Flamed, bush-hammered and sandblasted all are, and those are cut in our own works rather than bought in. Availability is high, and the range runs to kerbs and steps as well as slabs and tiles, so an elevation, its stair and its kerb line can be detailed in one stone.

New Halayeb, from the same district, is a different proposition entirely: a grey-white granite with a bold black crystal, produced for paving, setts and kerbs. Halayeb is the warm brown of the two, a plain coarse crystal with no speckle contrast in it.

Photographs

Halayeb in the yard

We are photographing this material now. Until the shoot is done, the turning slab and the close-up below are renderings, and the honest answer to “what does it actually look like” is a sample in your hand.

No photographs yet. Ask us for the current slab and block photographs of Halayeb — we shoot them on request, in the yard, with a scale in frame. A cut sample goes out by courier the same week.

Laid out

Halayeb across a floor

A photograph shows one slab on a stand. This shows the stone tile after tile — where the pattern repeats, how far the tone drifts across a batch, and what the joint does to it. Every tile here is cut from a different part of the surface, the way material comes out of a real crate.

Indicative layout. Tone drift is deliberate — no two tiles from one batch match exactly, and a laid floor should never look like one photograph repeated.

In the room

Halayeb against your wall colour

Nobody buys stone on a white background. Put Halayeb on the floor, up the wall or across a worktop, set the colour it will actually sit against, and change the light — the same three questions every client asks on a site visit, answered before the sample ships.

A scene, not a render of your project: proportions are indicative and colour on a screen is never the colour in a room. Send us the drawings and we will lay the real slab sizes out against your setting-out.

Halayeb, close up

The slab above turns; this is the same stone at the size it sits in your hand. Change the finish and it re-cuts.

Roughly a 130 mm span of Halayeb, polished. A rendered preview, not a photograph of stock — ask for a physical sample before you specify.

Formats

How Halayeb is supplied

Blocks

Quarry blocks selected and squared. Typical 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.5 × 1.5 m, 18 – 30 tonnes. Sold by m³, loaded on flat rack or in-container with steel cradles.

Gangsaw slabs

Full-size slabs from the gangsaw. Marble typically 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.6 – 1.9 m in 2 cm and 3 cm; granite 2 cm and 3 cm. Bundled by block so vein sequence is preserved.

Tiles

Calibrated tiles in 30×30, 30×60, 40×40, 60×60, 60×120 cm and free length, 1.0 – 3.0 cm. Edges straight-cut or bevelled, back-mesh on request.

Cut-to-size

Worked to your drawings — worktops, vanity tops, cladding panels, mitres, cut-outs, drainage grooves, undermount polishing. Supplied piece-marked to a setting-out plan. How a cut-to-size order runs

Kerbs and landscape

Granite kerbs, channels, edging and setts to European and Gulf highway profiles. Kerb sections and metres per container

Steps and risers

Treads with bullnose, half-bullnose or eased edge, anti-slip grooving on request, matched risers and stringers.

Asked about this stone

Halayeb — questions buyers ask

Is Halayeb suitable for kitchen worktops?

We do not list it for them. The crystal is coarse enough to read as busy at worktop range, and leathered is not produced in this material; for a brown Egyptian granite top, Sahara Brown and Gandola are the two we cut.

Which finish for external paving?

Flamed or bush-hammered where there is traffic, sandblasted where you want an even matt without the coarse texture. All three are produced in-house.

How much does the brown vary between blocks?

Enough that a single elevation should come from one block. The variation is exactly what makes the stone forgiving in a dusty climate, but it works against you if two facades are cut months apart and then set side by side.

Can we get matching kerbs and steps?

Yes — kerbs and steps are both produced in Halayeb, alongside slabs, tiles and cut-to-size. Cobbles and setts are not cut in it; Aswan Red and Grey Aswan are the ones that carry those.
