Red Aswan Dark is not a separate quarry. It is the dark selection off the same Aswan bed that gives Aswan Red — blocks where the feldspar runs oxblood rather than red-pink and the black amphibole comes in heavy enough to close the ground down. That depth is the whole reason to buy it, and it sets the working limits. Because it is a selection and not a bed of its own, how far down a block sits varies, which is why it is sold for monuments, memorial work and dark bands rather than for holding one tone across a whole elevation. The abraded finishes work against it: flaming and bush-hammering open the surface and take the red back toward grey. Kept polished, honed or leathered, it holds. It is cut as tiles, cut-to-size, steps and kerbs but not as cobbles, so a matching red sett line has to come from Aswan Red.

Aswan Red is the mid grade of the same bed and Red Aswan Light the pale, pink-leaning one chosen when a whole elevation is granite; the dark grade carries more black and less pink than either. It is also the narrower supply of the three — High against their Very high — and it is the only one of them not offered sandblasted or cut as cobbles.

How Red Aswan Dark is supplied

Blocks

Quarry blocks selected and squared. Typical 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.5 × 1.5 m, 18 – 30 tonnes. Sold by m³, loaded on flat rack or in-container with steel cradles.

Gangsaw slabs

Full-size slabs from the gangsaw. Marble typically 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.6 – 1.9 m in 2 cm and 3 cm; granite 2 cm and 3 cm. Bundled by block so vein sequence is preserved.

Tiles

Calibrated tiles in 30×30, 30×60, 40×40, 60×60, 60×120 cm and free length, 1.0 – 3.0 cm. Edges straight-cut or bevelled, back-mesh on request.

Cut-to-size

Red Aswan Dark — questions buyers ask

Will Red Aswan Dark hold one tone across a large elevation?

Not reliably. It is a dark selection taken out of the Aswan bed rather than a bed of its own, so the depth of the oxblood varies block to block. For a single-tone elevation use Aswan Red or Red Aswan Light and keep the dark grade for bands, plinths and monumental work.

Which finish keeps the colour deepest?

Polished, then honed. Flamed and bush-hammered open the surface and knock the red back toward grey, which defeats the reason most buyers choose this grade over Aswan Red. It is not offered sandblasted at all.

Is it a sensible choice for kitchen worktops?

Kitchen tops are a listed use, and leathered is cut in this stone alongside polished and honed. On a ground this dark that is worth asking about — a polished dark granite shows water marks and fingerprints that a leathered surface hides.

Can I run paving, steps and setts all in this stone?

Paving, stairs, steps and kerbs yes — all are listed or cut. Cobbles are not, so if the scheme needs setts in the same red they have to come from Aswan Red, which carries the full landscape format set.
