What sets the price of Egyptian marble and granite

Goldi — marble slab
Polished slab

Drag the slab to turn it, or use the arrow keys. Switching finish re-renders the surface — polished throws a hard specular, the abraded finishes open the surface up and knock the colour back.

Goldi is the volume stone of the Eastern Desert group. It comes off a licensed quarry that has been worked for years, and continuous production is the point of it: blocks are large, the tone holds across a batch, and the price sits below the Galala family. The ground is a warm golden beige crossed by fine ochre veining that stays quiet, enough movement to read as stone and not enough to fight a large floor. That combination is what puts it into retail interiors and contract work where the drawings want the Egyptian warm palette on a budget that will not carry Galala. It is produced across the full format range, blocks through to steps and sills, so a floor, the stair leaving it and the sills above can be cut and matched together. Finishes are polished, honed, brushed and antique.

Galala Classic is the neutral cream-beige of the range and the better-known name on a drawing. Goldi is the warmer, more golden ground with fine ochre veining, and it is usually specified because the price sits below the Galala family.

Photographs

Goldi in the yard

Photographs of our own blocks, slabs and finished work. Slab photography shows one slab — the block it came from is what you are quoted against.

Laid out

Goldi across a floor

A photograph shows one slab on a stand. This shows the stone tile after tile — where the pattern repeats, how far the tone drifts across a batch, and what the joint does to it. Every tile here is cut from a different part of the surface, the way material comes out of a real crate.

Goldi tile — Egyptian marble

Indicative layout. Tone drift is deliberate — no two tiles from one batch match exactly, and a laid floor should never look like one photograph repeated.

In the room

Goldi against your wall colour

Nobody buys stone on a white background. Put Goldi on the floor, up the wall or across a worktop, set the colour it will actually sit against, and change the light — the same three questions every client asks on a site visit, answered before the sample ships.

The slab above turns; this is the same stone at the size it sits in your hand. Change the finish and it re-cuts.

Formats

How Goldi is supplied

Blocks

Quarry blocks selected and squared. Typical 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.5 × 1.5 m, 18 – 30 tonnes. Sold by m³, loaded on flat rack or in-container with steel cradles.

Gangsaw slabs

Full-size slabs from the gangsaw. Marble typically 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.6 – 1.9 m in 2 cm and 3 cm; granite 2 cm and 3 cm. Bundled by block so vein sequence is preserved.

Tiles

Calibrated tiles in 30×30, 30×60, 40×40, 60×60, 60×120 cm and free length, 1.0 – 3.0 cm. Edges straight-cut or bevelled, back-mesh on request.

Cut-to-size

Worked to your drawings — worktops, vanity tops, cladding panels, mitres, cut-outs, drainage grooves, undermount polishing. Supplied piece-marked to a setting-out plan. How a cut-to-size order runs

Steps and risers

Treads with bullnose, half-bullnose or eased edge, anti-slip grooving on request, matched risers and stringers.

Window sills and thresholds

Sills, copings and thresholds with drip groove, polished ends and mitred returns.

Asked about this stone

Goldi — questions buyers ask

Will a repeat order match the first one?

Production is continuous and the tone holds across a batch, which is why Goldi ends up on phased work. Quote the original order when you re-order so the new cut can be checked back against it.

Which finish for a bathroom?

Honed on the floor: matt, less slippery when wet and more forgiving of scratches. Keep polished for the walls and the vanity, where it deepens the golden ground and brings the ochre veining up.

How large can cut-to-size pieces be?

Blocks are large, which helps when a drawing asks for long pieces, but the real answer depends on the block running at the time. Send the piece drawing and the yield can be confirmed before you commit.

Will the veining show at tile size?

The ochre veins are fine and stay in the background, which is exactly what makes the stone workable across a large floor. If you need to judge how much movement there is, ask for slab photographs rather than a tile sample.
