Egyptian granite and marble for Tunisia
Tunisia's own dimension stone is all sedimentary, so the granite comes in. A short Mediterranean leg to Radès, and beige competes with Thala on landed cost.

02 — Paperwork
What has to travel with it
Tunisia is outside the EU, so CE marking and a Declaration of Performance carry no weight at the border — useful as test evidence, worthless as clearance paperwork. Duty-free entry runs on origin by either of two routes: an Arab preference certificate legalised through the Egyptian Chamber of Commerce under GAFTA, or a EUR.1 movement certificate under the Agadir Agreement. We issue whichever your clearing agent asks for, so ask them which before the vessel is booked. Without one the fallback is the MFN rate, which on marble runs to 43 per cent, plus 19 per cent VAT on the duty-paid value.
03 — What sells here
Stone that suits Tunisia
Tunisia quarries good beige at Thala, so on beige we are competing against a local producer with no freight and no origin file, and we will say so. What Tunisia has no equivalent of is granite: Aswan red and grey go into external paving, kerbs, stair treads and coastal facade work around Tunis, Sousse and Hammamet, where salt and sun rule out a soft limestone. After that it is the colours Thala does not make — the golden Menia marbles, and the dark granites for worktops and monumental work.

The historic red granite of the pharaohs, still quarried today.

04 — Questions
Buying from Egypt, into Tunisia
Which certificate of origin do you issue?
Either one. An Arab preference certificate under GAFTA, or a EUR.1 under the Agadir Agreement. Tell us which your declarant wants and we issue that one.
What if the origin document is rejected?
You pay the MFN rate instead of nothing — 43 per cent on marble, plus VAT on the duty-paid value. Ten minutes with your broker before loading is worth it.
Why buy Egyptian beige when Tunisia has Thala?
Often you should not. We win on granite, which Tunisia does not quarry, and on colours Thala does not make. Ask for the CIF Radès number and compare honestly.
Can you ship to Sfax instead of Radès?
Yes, if it is closer to the job. Radès has the most sailings; Sfax suits the centre and the south. We quote both and you take the better landed cost.
Quoting for Tunisia?
Send the stone, the finish, the thickness, the quantity and the destination port. You get FOB and CIF prices and a lead time, usually within one working day.
