Exporting to Spain

Egyptian marble and granite for Spain

Spain quarries its own beige, so this is a landed-cost argument rather than a supply one — cream and golden Egyptian marble into the Alicante and Almería factories.

What has to travel with it

CE marking with a Declaration of Performance per batch under the UNE-EN adoptions — UNE-EN 12057 for modular tiles, UNE-EN 12058 for slabs and stairs, UNE-EN 1469 for cladding. Spain then adds a national layer the CE mark does not cover: section SUA 1 of the Código Técnico grades floors by slip resistance in healthcare, education, retail, office, car park and public-assembly buildings. Dwellings sit outside it. The reference method is the wet pendulum to UNE 41901 EX; the older UNE-ENV 12633 was annulled in 2013 and is still widely quoted, so check which one your specification means.

03 — What sells here

Stone that suits Spain

Spain is a stone producer before it is an importer — Crema Marfil out of Novelda and Pinoso, white marble from Macael, granite from Galicia — and we do not pretend otherwise. What Egypt sells here is cost on the plain volume beiges, and the golden and honey range Alicante does not quarry. A good part of what lands does not stay: Novelda and Macael re-cut Egyptian material and re-export it, which is why squareness and soundness get inspected harder here than in a market that lays what it buys. Granite goes into municipal paving and hard landscaping. Our quartz will not beat a Spanish price on Spanish ground, and we quote it only if you ask.

04 — Questions

Buying from Egypt, into Spain

Why import Egyptian marble into a producing country?

Landed cost on the plain volume beiges, and the golden range Alicante does not quarry. On a straight Crema Marfil comparison you should buy Spanish, and we will tell you so.

Which slip-resistance standard applies?

The wet pendulum to UNE 41901 EX, classed under section SUA 1 of the Código Técnico. The older UNE-ENV 12633 was annulled in 2013 but is still widely quoted, so confirm which your specification means.

Valencia or Barcelona?

Both are gateway ports and either can be the first Spanish call depending on the carrier's rotation, so do not assume Valencia is nearer in time. We quote both.

Do you supply blocks for re-cutting?

Yes, and a good part of what we ship to Spain is re-cut and re-exported. Blocks travel on flat rack; tell us the gangsaw and we cut the block to suit it.

Quoting for Spain?

Send the stone, the finish, the thickness, the quantity and the destination port. You get FOB and CIF prices and a lead time, usually within one working day.
