Drag the slab to turn it, or use the arrow keys. Switching finish re-renders the surface — polished throws a hard specular, the abraded finishes open the surface up and knock the colour back.

Milly Gray answered a market that had run out of patience with imported greys. The ground is a cool mid grey and white to off-white veins run across it, with enough direction in the bed that the saw decides what you receive: cut along the bed the veins run as long parallel lines, cut across it they open out. That instruction cannot be given after the block is sawn, so state vein-cut or cross-cut at order stage. The vein is strong enough to book-match into large symmetrical panels, which means slabs have to stay in their block bundles from the gangsaw to the site — put it on the order. Leathered is offered here and on only a handful of other marbles in the range: a soft satin with slight relief that hides water marks where a polish would show every one, which matters on a reception desk or a bathroom vanity. Supply is high; sills and thresholds are cut, steps are not.

New Milly Gray is the same Minya bed worked from newer faces — lighter ground, straighter vein, less sorting to lay it in volume. Milly Gray is the darker and more graphic of the pair, which is why it tends to go on the book-matched panel while its lighter grade covers the floor around it.

Photographs

Milly Gray in the yard

Photographs of our own blocks, slabs and finished work. Slab photography shows one slab — the block it came from is what you are quoted against.

Laid out

Milly Gray across a floor

A photograph shows one slab on a stand. This shows the stone tile after tile — where the pattern repeats, how far the tone drifts across a batch, and what the joint does to it. Every tile here is cut from a different part of the surface, the way material comes out of a real crate.

Indicative layout. Tone drift is deliberate — no two tiles from one batch match exactly, and a laid floor should never look like one photograph repeated.

In the room

Milly Gray against your wall colour

Nobody buys stone on a white background. Put Milly Gray on the floor, up the wall or across a worktop, set the colour it will actually sit against, and change the light — the same three questions every client asks on a site visit, answered before the sample ships.

A scene, not a render of your project: proportions are indicative and colour on a screen is never the colour in a room. Send us the drawings and we will lay the real slab sizes out against your setting-out.

Quarry blocks selected and squared. Typical 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.5 × 1.5 m, 18 – 30 tonnes. Sold by m³, loaded on flat rack or in-container with steel cradles.

Gangsaw slabs

Full-size slabs from the gangsaw. Marble typically 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.6 – 1.9 m in 2 cm and 3 cm; granite 2 cm and 3 cm. Bundled by block so vein sequence is preserved.

Sills, copings and thresholds with drip groove, polished ends and mitred returns.

Asked about this stone

Milly Gray — questions buyers ask

Vein-cut or cross-cut — which should I ask for?

Cut along the bed you get long parallel veining; cut across it the vein opens out. Both come from the same block, but the decision is made at the saw and cannot be reversed afterwards, so it has to be on the order.

Can Milly Gray be book-matched?

Yes — the vein is strong enough to carry large symmetrical panels, and that is one of the main reasons to choose it. Ask for the slabs to stay in block sequence and ship in their original bundles, or the consecutive pairs get separated in handling.

Why is leathered worth considering on this stone?

It is one of only a few marbles here offered leathered — a soft satin with slight relief that hides fingerprints and water marks. On a reception desk or a bathroom vanity in daily use it holds up better than a polish on a mid grey.

How well will a repeat order match the first one?

Supply is high, so repeat quantities are realistic, but the vein is strong and the newer faces run lighter — a second order will not automatically sit unnoticed beside the first. For phased work, raise the full quantity at the first order rather than the second.
