What sets the price of Egyptian marble and granite

Drag the slab to turn it, or use the arrow keys. Switching finish re-renders the surface — polished throws a hard specular, the abraded finishes open the surface up and knock the colour back.

Perlato is the figured member of the Galala group. Pale pearl-coloured pockets drift through the beige ground in soft, rounded shapes, closer to cloud cover than to veining, with the shell figure the name refers to. The practical consequence is that it hides wear: scuffing, light patina and the traffic path that forms down the middle of a busy floor sink into the figure instead of sitting on top of it. That is why it is specified for public floors and hospitality circulation rather than for quiet rooms. The same figure is the reason it should be dry-laid and sequenced before fixing, because the density of the pockets shifts from block to block and a floor set straight out of the crate can read busier in one bay than the next. Of the four finishes run on it, polished pulls the pearl pockets away from the ground and honed settles them back into it. Steps are made; sills are not.

Perlato and Katrina are both figured Egyptian creams, but the figure differs in kind: Perlato's is soft, rounded pearl clouding that resolves into tone from a distance, while Katrina's is discrete shell and fossil sections that read as objects held in the stone. Perlato works across a whole public floor; Katrina is normally kept to a feature wall or a bar front, and its blocks come less predictably.

Photographs

Perlato Galala in the yard

We are photographing this material now. Until the shoot is done, the turning slab and the close-up below are renderings, and the honest answer to “what does it actually look like” is a sample in your hand.

No photographs yet. Ask us for the current slab and block photographs of Perlato Galala — we shoot them on request, in the yard, with a scale in frame. A cut sample goes out by courier the same week.

Laid out

Perlato Galala across a floor

A photograph shows one slab on a stand. This shows the stone tile after tile — where the pattern repeats, how far the tone drifts across a batch, and what the joint does to it. Every tile here is cut from a different part of the surface, the way material comes out of a real crate.

Indicative layout. Tone drift is deliberate — no two tiles from one batch match exactly, and a laid floor should never look like one photograph repeated.

In the room

Perlato Galala against your wall colour

Nobody buys stone on a white background. Put Perlato Galala on the floor, up the wall or across a worktop, set the colour it will actually sit against, and change the light — the same three questions every client asks on a site visit, answered before the sample ships.

A scene, not a render of your project: proportions are indicative and colour on a screen is never the colour in a room. Send us the drawings and we will lay the real slab sizes out against your setting-out.

Asked about this stone

Perlato Galala — questions buyers ask

Does Perlato need laying out before it is fixed?

More than the plain Galala grades, yes. The density of the pearl pockets shifts from block to block, so have the material dry-laid or laid out and photographed before it goes down, and place the busier pieces where you want them rather than where the crate puts them.

Which finish suits the pearl figure best?

Polished lifts the pearl pockets clear of the beige ground for maximum contrast between the two; honed pulls them back into it for a quieter read. Brushed is the usual pick for a trafficked public floor, and antique softens the whole surface for a period scheme.

Can Perlato go on a facade?

Facades are on its list and it is cut as cladding, but it is run only polished, honed, brushed and antique — there is no sandblasted or tumbled face — so treat it as a cladding stone outside rather than as trafficked external paving.

Why is it recommended for busy floors?

Because the figure absorbs what traffic does: scuffing and light patina land inside the pattern instead of showing as a worn path across a plain ground. The same reason makes it the wrong choice for a room meant to read as one calm surface.
