Light Green Onyx — semi precious slab
Polished slab

Drag the slab to turn it, or use the arrow keys. Switching finish re-renders the surface — polished throws a hard specular, the abraded finishes open the surface up and knock the colour back.

Light Green Onyx is the quiet green: a pale sage ground with bands close enough in tone that the slab reads as a soft wash rather than a pattern. That narrow range is what makes it usable in quantity. A full wall of it holds together, where a stronger green would fight itself panel to panel. Backlit it goes to sea glass, an even glow with the banding only just visible in it, and lighting is one of the applications listed for it precisely because it transmits evenly rather than dramatically. Polished or honed, slabs and cut-to-size, from partner-supplied imported block. Vanity tops are on its list and it suits them better than a strongly figured onyx would, but it is a soft, acid-sensitive stone: acidic cleaners have to be kept off it. Backlit panels, feature walls, bar fronts, vanity tops and lighting are what it is for.

Green Onyx is the same family with a much darker ground and far more separation between band and base — a showpiece panel. Light Green is the one that survives being repeated across a wall.

Photographs

Light Green Onyx in the yard

Photographs of our own blocks, slabs and finished work. Slab photography shows one slab — the block it came from is what you are quoted against.

Laid out

Light Green Onyx across a floor

A photograph shows one slab on a stand. This shows the stone tile after tile — where the pattern repeats, how far the tone drifts across a batch, and what the joint does to it. Every tile here is cut from a different part of the surface, the way material comes out of a real crate.

Light Green Onyx tile — semi-precious stone

Indicative layout. Tone drift is deliberate — no two tiles from one batch match exactly, and a laid floor should never look like one photograph repeated.

In the room

Light Green Onyx against your wall colour

Nobody buys stone on a white background. Put Light Green Onyx on the floor, up the wall or across a worktop, set the colour it will actually sit against, and change the light — the same three questions every client asks on a site visit, answered before the sample ships.

Light Green Onyx, close up

The slab above turns; this is the same stone at the size it sits in your hand. Change the finish and it re-cuts.

Asked about this stone

Light Green Onyx — questions buyers ask

Can I run it across a whole wall?

Yes, and that is the reason to choose it over the stronger greens. The tonal range within the stone is narrow enough that variation between panels reads as movement rather than as a break in the wall.

How does it backlight?

Evenly — it glows rather than showing figure. That makes it a better choice where the stone is doing the lighting, such as a backlit bar front, than where a panel has to carry a pattern.

Is it suitable for a vanity top?

Vanity tops are on its list and the low contrast suits a horizontal surface. It is soft and acid-sensitive, though, so specify honed for a bathroom in heavy use and keep acidic cleaners and limescale removers off it.

It is listed for lighting as well as for panels — what is the difference?

In a backlit panel the stone is cladding with a light box behind it; in a lighting piece the stone is the diffuser itself, which is what its even transmission allows. Transmission is quoted at 15–20 mm, so thickness and light source have to be settled before anything is cut.
