Drag the slab to turn it, or use the arrow keys. Switching finish re-renders the surface — polished throws a hard specular, the abraded finishes open the surface up and knock the colour back.
Dumortierite is a mineral rather than a marble, and it behaves like one: hard, since the semi-precious materials here sit at Mohs 6–7 well above the onyxes, and dense enough that the white quartz running through it breaks across the face in forked lines instead of drifting like a vein. The colour is a deep denim blue, closer to indigo than to the greyer blues of the agates. It is one of only two materials in this range flagged rare, Red Dragon Onyx being the other, so it is quoted by the piece rather than by the square metre, and the panel size you can have depends on what exists rather than on what can be produced. Work that out before you enquire. We list it for feature walls, table tops, bar fronts, reception desks and decorative objects, front-lit work, and offer it polished only, in slabs and cut-to-size. It is bought in as imported block through the partner supply.
Blue Agate is the other blue we handle and the easier one to buy: concentric banding, no rare flag against it, and backlit panels at the top of its list of uses. Dumortierite is the darker and denser of the two, sold by the piece, and specified for surfaces lit from the front.

Photographs
Dumortierite in the yard
Photographs of our own blocks, slabs and finished work. Slab photography shows one slab — the block it came from is what you are quoted against.
Laid out
Dumortierite across a floor
A photograph shows one slab on a stand. This shows the stone tile after tile — where the pattern repeats, how far the tone drifts across a batch, and what the joint does to it. Every tile here is cut from a different part of the surface, the way material comes out of a real crate.
Indicative layout. Tone drift is deliberate — no two tiles from one batch match exactly, and a laid floor should never look like one photograph repeated.
In the room
Dumortierite against your wall colour
Nobody buys stone on a white background. Put Dumortierite on the floor, up the wall or across a worktop, set the colour it will actually sit against, and change the light — the same three questions every client asks on a site visit, answered before the sample ships.
A scene, not a render of your project: proportions are indicative and colour on a screen is never the colour in a room. Send us the drawings and we will lay the real slab sizes out against your setting-out.
Surface
Dumortierite, close up
The slab above turns; this is the same stone at the size it sits in your hand. Change the finish and it re-cuts.
Roughly a 130 mm span of Dumortierite, polished. A rendered preview, not a photograph of stock — ask for a physical sample before you specify.

How Dumortierite is supplied
Gangsaw slabs
Full-size slabs from the gangsaw. Marble typically 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.6 – 1.9 m in 2 cm and 3 cm; granite 2 cm and 3 cm. Bundled by block so vein sequence is preserved.
Cut-to-size
Worked to your drawings — worktops, vanity tops, cladding panels, mitres, cut-outs, drainage grooves, undermount polishing. Supplied piece-marked to a setting-out plan. How a cut-to-size order runs

Asked about this stone
Dumortierite — questions buyers ask
Can I get enough of it for a whole wall?
Unlikely. It is one of only two materials in this range carried as rare rather than simply enquire, and it is quoted by the piece — tell us the panel sizes you need and we will tell you what exists.
Is it available honed?
No, Dumortierite is polished only. The honed option in this category belongs to the onyxes and the quartz materials, not to the mineral stones like this one.
Will it work as a backlit panel?
We do not list it as one. Its uses here are front-lit — feature walls, table tops, bar fronts, reception desks and decorative objects — and if you want blue with light behind it, Blue Agate is the one specified for that.
Do the white quartz lines run the same way on every slab?
No. They break where the mineral broke, so orientation is a decision per panel rather than a rule for the run. Look at the actual slabs before you fix a layout.
