Brown Agate runs from dark coffee through to pale cream inside the same ring structure as the blue and the grey. It is the warmest and most forgiving of the three, and the one that sits easily beside timber and brass rather than fighting them. Feature walls, bar fronts and table tops head its list, with backlit panels fourth: this is a front surface first, and it holds up in daylight without needing a light behind it. Because a single slab can carry the whole coffee-to-cream range, choose the panel against the timber or metal it will sit next to rather than against the name. Polished only. At Mohs 6-7 the agates are harder than the onyx alongside them at 3-4, but the profile still rules out flooring, external use and heavy traffic. Slabs and cut-to-size both, made up from cut sections on a mesh-and-resin backing, bought in as imported block through our supply partnership and quoted slab by slab.
Brown Onyx is the other brown here and it works the opposite way round: nearly opaque chocolate until you light it from behind, then amber. Brown Agate gives you its coffee-to-cream banding in daylight and does not depend on a light source to earn the wall.

Brown Agate — questions buyers ask
How much does one slab vary?
A single panel can go from dark coffee to pale cream through the ring structure, so the variation inside one slab is part of the design rather than a defect. Two slabs will not repeat each other.
Does it need to be lit from behind?
No. Backlit panels are on its list but fourth of five; feature walls and bar fronts come first and the browns hold in daylight. Brown Onyx is the material here that only opens up when you light it.
Is it hard enough for bar work?
At Mohs 6-7 the agates are harder than the onyx alongside them at 3-4, and bar fronts and table tops are both on its list. Flooring, external work and heavy traffic are ruled out for the whole semi-precious group whatever the hardness says.
