Drag the slab to turn it, or use the arrow keys. Switching finish re-renders the surface — polished throws a hard specular, the abraded finishes open the surface up and knock the colour back.

The newer working faces at Minya give a lighter ground and a straighter, more parallel vein than the original bed, and the practical consequence is matching. Adjacent slabs from the same block fall into line without much sorting, so this is the grey to specify when the quantity is large and the setting-out repetitive: a floor plate, a corridor run, a commercial fit-out handed over in phases. The vein also stays legible at the larger calibrated tile sizes rather than washing out into a flat grey field, which is where light greys usually fail. Polished, honed, brushed and leathered are all available, and the format list matches the original grade exactly — sills included, steps not. Block production is high. The stone is quoted as Milly Gray Extra as well as New Milly Gray, so check which name is on the offer in front of you before you compare it against another.

Set against the original Milly Gray, this grade gives up contrast and gains predictability: lighter ground, straighter vein, and slab-to-slab matching that takes less sorting. Use the original where one wall has to be the feature, and this where a large area simply has to look even.

Photographs

New Milly Gray in the yard

We are photographing this material now. Until the shoot is done, the turning slab and the close-up below are renderings, and the honest answer to “what does it actually look like” is a sample in your hand.

No photographs yet. Ask us for the current slab and block photographs of New Milly Gray — we shoot them on request, in the yard, with a scale in frame. A cut sample goes out by courier the same week.

Laid out

New Milly Gray across a floor

A photograph shows one slab on a stand. This shows the stone tile after tile — where the pattern repeats, how far the tone drifts across a batch, and what the joint does to it. Every tile here is cut from a different part of the surface, the way material comes out of a real crate.

Indicative layout. Tone drift is deliberate — no two tiles from one batch match exactly, and a laid floor should never look like one photograph repeated.

In the room

New Milly Gray against your wall colour

Nobody buys stone on a white background. Put New Milly Gray on the floor, up the wall or across a worktop, set the colour it will actually sit against, and change the light — the same three questions every client asks on a site visit, answered before the sample ships.

Formats

How New Milly Gray is supplied

Blocks

Quarry blocks selected and squared. Typical 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.5 × 1.5 m, 18 – 30 tonnes. Sold by m³, loaded on flat rack or in-container with steel cradles.

Gangsaw slabs

Full-size slabs from the gangsaw. Marble typically 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.6 – 1.9 m in 2 cm and 3 cm; granite 2 cm and 3 cm. Bundled by block so vein sequence is preserved.

Tiles

Calibrated tiles in 30×30, 30×60, 40×40, 60×60, 60×120 cm and free length, 1.0 – 3.0 cm. Edges straight-cut or bevelled, back-mesh on request.

Cut-to-size

Worked to your drawings — worktops, vanity tops, cladding panels, mitres, cut-outs, drainage grooves, undermount polishing. Supplied piece-marked to a setting-out plan. How a cut-to-size order runs

Window sills and thresholds

Sills, copings and thresholds with drip groove, polished ends and mitred returns.

Asked about this stone

New Milly Gray — questions buyers ask

How much lighter is it than Milly Gray?

Enough to read as a different material on a sample board — the ground is lighter and the contrast between vein and ground is lower. Put the two side by side before assuming one can stand in for the other on the same job.

Will slabs match across a large floor?

Better than the original grade will. The vein is straighter and more parallel, so adjacent slabs from a block fall into sequence with less sorting, which is exactly why this is the volume grey of the two.

Is Milly Gray Extra a different stone?

No — Milly Gray Extra is the same material under a second trade name. If you are comparing Egyptian offers, check the name on each quotation before assuming you have prices for two different greys.

Does the vein survive at large tile sizes?

Yes, and that is one of its arguments. The figure stays legible at the larger calibrated formats instead of washing out into a flat grey, which is the usual failure of light greys at that scale.
