Royal Grey is the contract stone among the Egyptian greys. It comes out of the Suez and Eastern Desert beds as an even mid-tone with a fine grain and only light figure, which is what a large floor needs when no single slab is meant to be looked at; honed, it reads closer to a warm concrete than to a blue-grey. Production is very high and steady, so tone can be matched across phases of a project cut years apart. That, more than appearance, is why it turns up in office interiors, on stairs and risers and on facades rather than as a feature panel. The format list carries steps and sills as well as slabs, tiles and cut-to-size, so treads, risers and cills come off one order. Five finishes are cut, including brushed and sandblasted, which is what external work on a marble has to use — flamed is granite only.
Milly Gray is the grey to take when the stone is meant to be seen: a cool ground with strong white veining and a vein direction you have to instruct on at order stage. Royal Grey is the opposite brief — light figure, steady tone, and no cutting instruction to get wrong.

How Royal Grey is supplied
Blocks
Quarry blocks selected and squared. Typical 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.5 × 1.5 m, 18 – 30 tonnes. Sold by m³, loaded on flat rack or in-container with steel cradles.
Gangsaw slabs
Full-size slabs from the gangsaw. Marble typically 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.6 – 1.9 m in 2 cm and 3 cm; granite 2 cm and 3 cm. Bundled by block so vein sequence is preserved.
Tiles
Calibrated tiles in 30×30, 30×60, 40×40, 60×60, 60×120 cm and free length, 1.0 – 3.0 cm. Edges straight-cut or bevelled, back-mesh on request.
Cut-to-size

Royal Grey — questions buyers ask
Can Royal Grey be matched to an earlier phase of the same building?
That is the main reason it gets specified. Availability is very high and production is continuous, so tone holds across phases cut years apart. Send a piece from the first phase with the enquiry so the match is made against the stone actually laid rather than against a name.
Is it suitable for an external facade?
Facades are in its application list, and brushed and sandblasted are both cut on it — the two textured finishes available on a marble, since flamed would thermally damage it. Note that the grey-marble spec range shown on this page carries no frost-cycling figure, unlike the granite range, so confirm with us before committing it to a freeze-thaw elevation.
Does it come leathered?
No. The five finishes are polished, honed, brushed, sandblasted and antique. Leathered is cut on Imperial Grey, Imperial Grey Dark and both Milly greys if that is the surface you are after.
Can the stair be supplied worked rather than as slab?
Yes — steps and sills are both in its format list, so treads with a bullnose or eased edge, matched risers, and the cills and thresholds around them can all be cut to size on the same order.
