Ocean Jasper is orbicular. Small circular structures sit scattered through a green and cream ground, so instead of veins or bands you get a field of shapes with no direction to it. It works at two distances, which little else in this range manages: close up on a vanity top the orbs are intricate and repay looking at, and from across a room the same surface settles into a soft green mottle. That is why vanity tops are on its list along with feature walls, table tops, bar fronts and decorative objects. Polished only, and not one of the materials we specify for backlighting. It comes in as imported block through our supply partnership, made up from cut sections on a fibreglass mesh and resin backing, and is chosen slab by slab from photographs, since availability is limited to what exists rather than to what can be produced.
Light Green Onyx is the other green that works over a large area, but it gets there with pale sage banding and it backlights to something like sea glass. Ocean Jasper's quiet comes from the orbs averaging out at distance; it is polished only, front-lit, and at Mohs 6-7 harder than the onyx.

What does orbicular mean in practice?
The green and cream ground carries small circular structures instead of veins or bands, so the pattern has no direction. There is no vein run to align when you set panels out — one decision fewer than the agates.
Is it suitable for a vanity top?
Vanity tops are on its list, with feature walls, table tops, bar fronts and decorative objects, and it is the jasper that stands up to close inspection because the orbs hold detail at short range. Flooring, external use and heavy traffic are excluded for the whole semi-precious group.
Does it read as a pattern from across a room?
No — the orbs average into a soft green mottle and the surface reads as texture rather than figure. That is what lets it cover more area than Apple Jasper.
