Calacatta Nile is the pattern slab of the quartz range: a bright white ground crossed by broad grey veins with a warm gold thread running beside them. The gold is what separates it from the other veined whites here — it pulls a scheme towards brass and oak rather than chrome and grey. The point that matters to a fabricator is that the veining is not printed on the face but runs through the body of the slab. Mitre an island edge and the vein carries round the corner and down the apron instead of stopping at the arris; cut an undermount sink from it and the exposed edge still has pattern in it rather than a plain white core. That is why it earns its keep on an island, a table top or a feature wall, where the edges and the cut-outs are on show, more than on a run of base units where both are hidden.
Statuario Alba is the same idea without the gold — thinner, cooler grey veining on a cooler ground. Where a room has warm timber or brass, Calacatta Nile picks it up; where it is grey and chrome, the gold thread will fight it and Statuario Alba is the safer specification.

Gangsaw slabs
Full-size slabs from the gangsaw. Marble typically 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.6 – 1.9 m in 2 cm and 3 cm; granite 2 cm and 3 cm. Bundled by block so vein sequence is preserved.

Calacatta Nile — questions buyers ask
How should I handle a joint on a long island?
The slab is 3200 × 1600 mm, so anything longer than that takes a joint. With veins this broad the joint position wants settling on the drawing rather than on site — send us the setting-out and we will quote the cut-to-size from it.
Does the vein carry through a mitred edge?
Yes. The veining runs through the body of the slab rather than being printed on the face, so a mitred island edge carries the pattern round the corner and down the apron. The same holds for an undermount cut-out: the exposed edge has pattern in it, not a plain white core.
Polished or honed?
Both are produced. Polished holds the grey veins sharp against the white and lifts the gold thread; honed lowers the contrast and reads warmer and softer, which is usually the better answer on a feature wall facing a light source.
Is it too busy for a small vanity top?
It is the boldest of the white-ground patterns in this line, and on a small piece a broad vein can land badly — one stripe through the middle and little else. That is where Statuario Alba's finer veining is easier to place.
