Kenya buys its marble and granite worked rather than in block, and 2024 trade data puts Egypt among the leading suppliers of worked marble and granite into the country. Polished granite goes into floors, stairs and kitchen tops, beige and golden marble into lobbies and bathrooms. Big 5 Construct Kenya, 21 – 23 October 2026, is where much of the building-materials trade meets.
The eight steps
Choose the stone
Send the name your market knows the stone by, or a photograph, and we match it to the blocks we can supply. Every stone has its own page with its colour, origin, finishes and formats.

Shipping to Kenya
Sokhna or Alexandria → Mombasa: Transit time confirmed per booking.
We load at Sokhna on the Red Sea, or at Alexandria. Most sailings to Mombasa go through a transhipment port, and the routing depends on the state of the Red Sea at the time, so the transit time is confirmed when the container is booked.
From Mombasa the Northern Corridor carries containers on to Nairobi, Kampala and Kigali by road or rail. Uganda and Rwanda are in COMESA too.
Transit times are indicative port-to-port sailing times and exclude customs and inland haulage. Confirm at booking — they move with the season and the service.
Documents, duty and clearance in Kenya
With every container: the commercial invoice, the packing list and the bill of lading, and a certificate of origin. Customs clearance at your end is yours or your broker's.
A certificate of origin has been required on every import into Kenya since 2025, and it travels with the commercial invoice, the packing list and the bill of lading. Kenya and Egypt are both COMESA members, so COMESA preference may apply to Egyptian-origin stone shipped with a valid COMESA certificate of origin: confirm the rate with your customs broker before we load. According to KEBS, goods of African origin do not need pre-export verification of conformity (PVoC). Timber packaging is heat treated and marked to ISPM 15.
Kenya and Egypt are both in the COMESA free-trade area. Egyptian-origin stone shipped with a valid COMESA certificate of origin enters Kenya free of import duty; marble and granite from China, India or Turkey pays the full East African Community rate. On a container of polished slabs or tiles, that is the line on the landed cost that matters most.
We arrange the certificate of origin with the shipping documents. Confirm the current treatment with your customs broker before we load, because tariff schedules change.

Egyptian marble and granite for Kenya: route, documents and the stones that sell
Importing to Kenya: questions
Does Egyptian stone pay import duty in Kenya?
Under the COMESA free-trade area, Egyptian-origin stone shipped with a valid COMESA certificate of origin enters Kenya free of import duty, while stone from outside COMESA pays the full East African Community rate. We arrange the certificate; confirm the current treatment with your customs broker before we load.
Is pre-shipment inspection (PVoC) required?
Not for goods of African origin, according to KEBS. A certificate of origin is required on every import, and we arrange it with the shipping documents.
Which port do you ship to?
Mombasa. We load at Sokhna or Alexandria and quote FOB or CIF Mombasa; the transit time is confirmed when the container is booked.
Can you deliver on to Uganda or Rwanda?
Yes. The container goes by sea to Mombasa and on by road or rail along the Northern Corridor; your forwarder handles the inland leg, and the COMESA certificate of origin travels with the documents.
Minimum order, payment, samples, tests and where the blocks come from are answered once for every country in the step-by-step guide.
