Red Dragon Onyx — semi precious slab
Polished slab

Drag the slab to turn it, or use the arrow keys. Switching finish re-renders the surface — polished throws a hard specular, the abraded finishes open the surface up and knock the colour back.

Red Dragon is the most heavily figured stone in the onyx range and the only one where figure, rather than banding, is the material. Deep red is torn through cream in movement that looks arranged rather than geological, at a small enough scale that one slab is already busy. It is supplied polished only, in slabs and cut-to-size, and availability is the real constraint: partner supply, rare, quoted when a block is actually in. That order matters. One panel is a statement, four book-matched is a commission, and a commission needs consecutive slabs off one block reserved before the drawings are finished rather than after. Book-matched panels, backlit panels, feature walls, bar fronts and reception desks are the listed uses, and all of them are vertical. Design it around the slabs you have been offered, not around the ones you would like to exist.

Onyx Miele Flower is the other stone in the range built for book-matching, but it resolves into rosettes on a honey ground — symmetrical, warm, and available to enquiry rather than listed as rare. Red Dragon book-matches into something much louder, and the block has to exist first.

Photographs

Red Dragon Onyx in the yard

Photographs of our own blocks, slabs and finished work. Slab photography shows one slab — the block it came from is what you are quoted against.

Laid out

Red Dragon Onyx across a floor

A photograph shows one slab on a stand. This shows the stone tile after tile — where the pattern repeats, how far the tone drifts across a batch, and what the joint does to it. Every tile here is cut from a different part of the surface, the way material comes out of a real crate.

Red Dragon Onyx tile — semi-precious stone

Indicative layout. Tone drift is deliberate — no two tiles from one batch match exactly, and a laid floor should never look like one photograph repeated.

In the room

Red Dragon Onyx against your wall colour

Nobody buys stone on a white background. Put Red Dragon Onyx on the floor, up the wall or across a worktop, set the colour it will actually sit against, and change the light — the same three questions every client asks on a site visit, answered before the sample ships.

The slab above turns; this is the same stone at the size it sits in your hand. Change the finish and it re-cuts.

How Red Dragon Onyx is supplied

Gangsaw slabs

Full-size slabs from the gangsaw. Marble typically 2.6 – 3.0 × 1.6 – 1.9 m in 2 cm and 3 cm; granite 2 cm and 3 cm. Bundled by block so vein sequence is preserved.

Cut-to-size

Worked to your drawings — worktops, vanity tops, cladding panels, mitres, cut-outs, drainage grooves, undermount polishing. Supplied piece-marked to a setting-out plan. How a cut-to-size order runs

Asked about this stone

Red Dragon Onyx — questions buyers ask

Can you supply four slabs for a book-match?

Only from one block, taken as consecutive slabs out of the bundle. Because the material is rare and quoted as blocks come in, the bundle has to be reserved before the panel layout is fixed rather than after.

Is there a honed version?

No — polished is the only finish listed for it, unlike most of the onyx range. A matt scheme has to be met with a different material.

Is there enough of it for a large wall?

Rarely. The figure changes from slab to slab and the quantity available at any one time is limited, so it works as one or two panels set into a wall of something quieter rather than as the wall itself.

How does it behave backlit?

Backlit panels are on its list, but the red-to-cream contrast is the highest in the onyx range and light behind it widens that gap rather than evening the panel out. View the specific slab lit before you commit to it.
