What sets the price of Egyptian marble and granite

Samaha — marble slab
Polished slab

Drag the slab to turn it, or use the arrow keys. Switching finish re-renders the surface — polished throws a hard specular, the abraded finishes open the surface up and knock the colour back.

Samaha's crystal is a little coarser than the Galala family's, and everything useful about the stone follows from that. Honed or brushed, it comes up with a sandy tooth you can feel through a bare foot, which is why it is specified around pools and on terraces rather than only indoors, and why the finish list runs the full range down to tumbled and sandblasted. The polish is not the point here. Polished is offered and the stone takes it, but a coarser crystal will not hold the glass-flat reflection the fine Galala crystal gives, and the reason to choose Samaha over a Galala is the abraded faces. The colour is a warm mid beige sitting between Silvia Menia's grey-leaning neutral and the honey of the Sunny grades, which makes it the bridge when a scheme runs two or three Egyptian beiges together. Steps and sills are made alongside the tiles.

Hashma Beige is the other beige that goes outside, and the two get there differently: Hashma is dense and tight-grained, honed to a matt face that resists showing scratches, while Samaha's coarser crystal gives grip through texture. Hashma is not offered polished at all, which tells you where it is meant to go; Samaha is, so the same stone can run from a terrace into a polished interior floor.

Photographs

Samaha in the yard

Photographs of our own blocks, slabs and finished work. Slab photography shows one slab — the block it came from is what you are quoted against.

Laid out

Samaha across a floor

A photograph shows one slab on a stand. This shows the stone tile after tile — where the pattern repeats, how far the tone drifts across a batch, and what the joint does to it. Every tile here is cut from a different part of the surface, the way material comes out of a real crate.

Samaha tile — Egyptian marble

Indicative layout. Tone drift is deliberate — no two tiles from one batch match exactly, and a laid floor should never look like one photograph repeated.

In the room

Samaha against your wall colour

Nobody buys stone on a white background. Put Samaha on the floor, up the wall or across a worktop, set the colour it will actually sit against, and change the light — the same three questions every client asks on a site visit, answered before the sample ships.

The slab above turns; this is the same stone at the size it sits in your hand. Change the finish and it re-cuts.

Asked about this stone

Samaha — questions buyers ask

What does the coarser crystal actually change?

It gives honed and brushed faces a sandy tooth you can feel through a bare foot, which is what makes it work around pools and on terraces. It also means the polish never comes up as glass-flat as the finer-crystal Galala — choose Samaha for the abraded finishes, not for the shine.

Is Samaha suitable for a pool surround?

Pool surrounds and terraces are both on its application list, and it is run in the full texture range — brushed, tumbled and sandblasted. Tumbled is worth looking at for the coping and the pool edge in particular, since it rounds the arrises as well as pitting the face.

Where does Samaha's colour sit against the other Egyptian beiges?

Between Silvia Menia's grey-leaning neutral and the honey of the Sunny grades — warm, but not gold. That middle position is why it gets used as the bridge when a scheme is running two or three Egyptian beiges together.

Can I get matching steps for an external stair in Samaha?

Yes — steps and sills are both made alongside the tiles, with sandblasted or brushed treads where grip matters. Order them off the same blocks as the floor so the tone agrees across the two.
