The eight steps

Choose the stone

Send the name your market knows the stone by, or a photograph, and we match it to the blocks we can supply. Every stone has its own page with its colour, origin, finishes and formats.

Egyptian marble · Egyptian granite · cut-to-size · floor tiles · countertops

Send what the quotation needs

The stone, the finish, the thickness and quantity of each item and your port — or the bill of quantities or the drawing as it is. The full checklist

Pay in three stages

50 % in advance, on order; 30 % after your approval of the finished production; 20 % before shipping.

Approve the stone before it ships

Photographs of your actual slabs or bundles, or an inspection at the factory, before the 30 % is paid and before anything is loaded.

Loading the 20 ft container

About 421 m² of 2 cm granite or 429 m² of 2 cm marble per 20 ft, on a 25 t payload with packing. A 20 ft container carries about 25 tonnes at sea, but US road limits usually allow less once it sits on a chassis, and the limit depends on the state and the trucker's equipment. Tell us the cargo weight your trucker can take and we load to it, with the loaded weight confirmed before the container leaves Alexandria. Every thickness

Documents, duty and clearance in the United States

With every container: the commercial invoice, the packing list and the bill of lading, and a certificate of origin. Customs clearance at your end is yours or your broker's.

ASTM rather than EN: C503 for marble, C615 for granite, C97 for absorption and density, C170 for compressive strength, C99 for modulus of rupture. Say at quotation stage that the specification is written to ASTM, because EN figures are not what a US specifier will accept. For the stone you select we arrange water absorption, flexural strength and abrasion tests at an accredited laboratory.

Importing to the USA: questions

Can the stone be tested to ASTM?

Ask at quotation stage rather than after production. For the stone you select we arrange water absorption, flexural strength and abrasion tests at an accredited laboratory.

Do you ship LCL?

No — full containers only. We consolidate several stones into one container if that is what it takes to fill it.

Who handles customs?

You or your broker. We supply the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin.

Minimum order, payment, samples, tests and where the blocks come from are answered once for every country in the step-by-step guide.
